DOT & CDL EXAMS FOR MERIDIAN, BOISE & NAMPA DRIVERS

Federal laws require that drivers who operate certain vehicles have a certified medical examination, to ensure public safety.

Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

USDOT & Commercial Licenses

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) oversees this medical program for approving commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) and certified medical examiners (CME).

Dr. Crownover is an FMCSA certified medical examiner (CME), who completed the required training and passed the federal examination. He works with drivers to ensure that all relevant conditions are identified and the appropriate type of CDL is issued. As a large portion of his career included service in the armed forces, including service overseas, he has extensive experience working with professionals and completing government mandated examinations.

Exam Components

All DOT exams cover the basics of a standard physical:

Medical history questions
Hearing and vision tests
Blood pressure and respiratory exam
Urinalysis
Musculoskeletal check

Preparing for the Exam

Driver’s License
Corrective lenses (Glasses or contacts) if used
Medication List
- Certain medications such as methadone, medical marijuana, diabetic insulin, and anti-seizure meds used to prevent seizures will prevent you from passing. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/faq/what-medications-disqualify-cmv-driver.
Sleep apnea patients using CPAP should bring their compliance report proving you are using your machine and obtaining desired results. Your CPAP supplier or sleep medicine doctor should help with this report.
Drink plenty of water before your visit.
- Because a urinalysis is a required component of the examination drink enough water before your appointment.
Ensure your blood pressure is LESS than 140 over 90. Uncontrolled, previously diagnosed high blood pressure is an immediate fail; the first time you have high blood pressure you may receive a 3-12 month grace period extension but thereafter high blood pressure will cause you to LOSE your CDL
